Evaluation of Our Performance

I believe our group achieved in creating a piece which was truthful to its site and the sites features created a creative piece with a strong message, connecting with each other’s bodies physically and mentally. The strongest part of our piece was our sensitivity to the architecture, by using lights to catch the curves of the walls and highlight moments of physical work from the actors.

In addition I believe we had a bold ending with the baby projection which allowed our audience to question whether Fred and Rose West were evil from birth. Was it their childhood that caused them to commit their crimes? And does it stem from when they were babies?

However I believe we could have made the information walls more interactive. For example allowing the audience to open letters and getting them to write on the walls would have allowed the audience to feel like they were exploring and investigating more which were two key things we wanted the audience to feel like they were doing.

I also believe our physical work could have been stronger. We had moments that we devised that were effective, I think we could have played with levels more by using the space more such as the ceiling, floor of walls, also pushing, pulling and climbing on each other. We could have studied the brain more and taken a physical approach of that in our movements as this would have created a more brain like feel to the experience and added a different dynamic to our movements.

Overall I believe our group worked really well together by having the same vision, communicating what we wanted to piece to say and most of all having fun creating the piece I think was really important, we enjoyed the process which allowed us to be creative and free.

Can You Be Evil From Birth?

A question in which our group asked ourselves when it came to Fred and Rose West. We wanted to find the answer to whether the couple were born evil or whether it was the circumstances in which they were raised in that then later caused them to commit the violent crimes they did.

There are many theories as to why humans commit unspeakable evil, but none of them are particularly comforting. If the childhoods of serial killers are filled with abuse and hardship, then they can appear to be victims of painful circumstances. But if society isn’t to blame at all – if murderers have charming upbringings and little to complain about – then could they be born evil?

In a group discussion, i strongly felt that Fred and Rose West committed their crimes because of their dysfunctional up brining, after doing research and finding out that both Fred and rose had been abused as children, i began to understand why their morals were broken. Rose's father sexually abused her when she was younger and was often a customer to her prostitute services when she was older, maybe this is why she let her husband Fred carry out sexual acts on younger children.
